Who we are…
We believe that therapy is not one size fits all; therefore our approach is very eclectic. We believe in individual right to self-determination and work at a pace that is specific for each person.
The purpose of this website is to give you an opportunity to learn who we are and determine if you would like to work with one of us. Choosing a therapist is very personal and asking for help can feel daunting.
We urge you to be as selfish and judgmental as you need to be in order to find the right fit.
If our experiences resonate with a part of you, then we might be able to help.
We specialize in working with people in crisis, first responders (law enforcement, 911 dispatchers, fire fighters and other public service personnel) and individuals with childhood or recent history of traumatic events that are causing problems in their everyday life.
More specifically, we have a combined experience of 23 years working with first responders who have experienced a critical incident that has resulted in symptoms of feeling “stuck” and experiencing symptoms of intrusive images that cause distress, increased anger outbursts, anxiety, nightmares, sleep disturbance, isolation, and increased use of alcohol and drugs for coping. These symptoms and behaviors can lead to distress in relationships at work and home. We want to help you preserve those relationships.
Since 2012, Laura and I have the privilege and honor to serve as mental health professionals, (MHPs) with Sam Houston State University Law Enforcement Management Institute Post Critical Incident Seminars (SHSU LEMIT PCIS). We are trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist in resolving symptoms associated with critical or traumatic incidents.
Additionally, we have a combined experience of 25+ years conducting psychiatric assessments of individuals in a crisis in a hospital setting. Laura and I worked for mobile psychiatric response teams for different hospital systems. (how we met). We realized our strength is helping individuals in crisis. We truly enjoyed working in the frenetic environment of emergency departments to assist individuals in crisis.
Working with individuals in crisis and specializing in EMDR training has granted us the necessary experience to work with adults who have experienced trauma in their childhood and/or recent traumatic experiences. We uphold the strictest principles of providing a safe, confidential and supportive space; and working at a pace that is comfortable and dictated by individual preference.
